In an exciting release by the Afro Acid label head, DJ Pierre introduces “Rise”, three bold remixes under his new moniker aPHRo P, set for official release on November 30th.
“The Revolt Mix” is first up, heavy-handed with a deep, driving thump so characteristic of the label’s sound. The main refrain of the track begins simple and powerful - “Rise” - then accelerates and amplifies around a richly soulful spoken word vocal, proclaiming, “I will, I am, I will rise, I am rising … Yes, we rise!”, before diving back into the relative emptiness of the initial driving thump, now starkly intensified with its conclusive, “or not”.
“Soul Tribe Mix” is up next - a somewhat more energetic (if not necessarily optimistic) afro house version, with the “Instrumental Mix” finishing out the trio - the synth, sweet and dreamy, far more pronounced with the absence of the vocals.
With overtones of social justice and self-actualization, “Rise” is as much a dance floor heater as it is a cold reminder that complacency is not an option.
