Andre Salata and Roland Leesker’s forthcoming release “Oi” is a beautiful example of what is possible when two producers are completely in sync. Deliciously demonic from the jump, “Oi” builds expectantly from a fairly minimal bump-and-tap combo into a powerfully energetic yet controlled composition that evolves with the addition of swipes, jabs, and a jazzy hi-hat, among other elements -- all of which have been thoughtfully, delicately curated, in contrast with the track’s grittiness. The anticipated 808 begins bubbling in around minute one, tussling with the vocal refrain of the song’s title, commanding but playful.
Arguably outdoing the original version in the devilishness department, “Oi (DJ Pierre Jack Mix)” is a bit of a groovier, headier jam, with a bright, percussive whine that carries the track alongside a much more placid 808 undercurrent. Through its many twists and turns, the track manages to hold its intensity, promising to keep the heads bobbing, the gears turning, and the floor moving.
